AI is revolutionizing the freight transport industry in Mexico: Fuel Savings, Increased Productivity, and Road Safety

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is marking a before and after in the freight transport industry in Mexico, offering innovative solutions that not only optimize operational efficiency but also contribute to road safety and significant fuel savings. Through the use of AI, companies have been able to optimize fleet performance by up to 89%, considering metrics such as idle times, RPM regime, average speed, and mileage covered, said Santiago Flores, director of AI implementation at Métrica Móvil. "Telemetry is becoming highly relevant in the operations of the freight transport industry in the country. According to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Mexico faces a significant challenge in road safety, with its latest report recording nearly 230,000 vehicle collisions, more than 53,000 motorcycle accidents, 11,000 pedestrian incidents, about 11,000 off-road incidents, and 4,000 collisions with cyclists. "These figures highlight the urgent need to adopt advanced technologies that can mitigate these incidents," said Santiago Flores.

 

In this regard, according to INEGI data, the main causes of accidents include:

• Speeding: Through Métrica Móvil's telematics, fleets can reduce speeding incidents by up to 30% and the maximum speed reached by up to 10%.
• Cell Phone Use: Approximately 70% of road incidents in Mexico are caused by the imprudence of using a cell phone while driving. With Métrica Móvil's technology, it is possible to reduce cell phone use incidents by up to 50%.
• Driver Fatigue: It is estimated that 25% of highway accidents are caused by driver fatigue. With Métrica Móvil's technology, it is possible to identify drowsiness or fatigue events with 99% accuracy, alerting the operator locally to avoid a collision or establishing measures to prevent this situation from recurring in operations.
• Poor Vehicle Conditions: Through Métrica Móvil, it is possible to identify vehicle failures in advance that could be associated with poor performance in an emergency. It is possible to identify if the unit has a problem with the ABS brake system so that the failure can be corrected and a safer path can be followed. It is estimated that since the first implementation of ABS brakes, more than 90,000 lives have been saved.
• Reckless Driving: With Métrica Móvil's telematics, it is possible to identify erratic driving or unsafe driving conditions and alert these situations in the cabin and remotely, improving fleet performance by up to 40%, making daily tasks much safer.
