President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo inaugurated the event which was staged from 31 October to 2 November 2018, at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. Infrastructure development to unite the entire country
President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo attended the opening ceremony and inaugurated the event. In his opening speech, he stated, “Infrastructure development is conducted not only to push economic development in Indonesia, but also to unite the entire country.” Through the opening ceremony, Jokowi also acknowledged and gave appreciation to the certification programme from the Ministry of Public Works & Housing, Republic of Indonesia (PUPR) and the National Construction Services Development Board (LPJKN). In total, 10,000 certificates were awarded to trained and skilled construction workers at the awarding ceremony. “Every worker must be certified. I will ask the Minister of PUPR to increase these certifications ten-fold for next year”, Jokowi added. He also highlighted the importance of implementing new technologies in infrastructure development, saying that technology must be utilized to improve efficiency and quality in building and developing infrastructure.

Richard Butter, Director Traffic Technology of RAI Amsterdam, owner of the Intertraffic events portfolio and co-organiser of Intertraffic Indonesia noted, “Technology development pushes every sector to grow, including traffic and city management. That is why smart cities are being developed in many countries around the globe. Indonesia itself has great potential in the traffic technology and IoT industries since congestion is one of the main problems facing the country. Therefore, Intertraffic Indonesia is a great platform to present new technologies that can be implemented to improve Indonesia’s road transport infrastructure and traffic management.”

Nino Gruettke, CEO of Tarsus Asia, co-organiser of Intertraffic Indonesia expressed, “As a first edition, Intertraffic Indonesia 2018 shows huge potential to grow further and assume a pivotal role in Indonesia’s traffic management and IoT industries. Traffic congestion has become one of the main problems in several big cities including Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia. Intertraffic Indonesia 2018 showcased great technologies that can help solve the congestion problem. There were also many interesting topics discussed in the conference programme. We are delighted to be involved with Intertraffic Indonesia and to play a part in Indonesia’s traffic development.”
