Following his academic career, Dr. Edl transitioned into executive and entrepreneurial leadership. Since 2005, he has been a key driving force behind DELTABLOC’s technologies and innovations, shaping the company’s strategic development and international expansion. Under his leadership, DELTABLOC has evolved from a specialized start-up into a globally recognized brand for temporary and permanent concrete safety barriers, guardrails, and noise barriers used in traffic and infrastructure environments.
In recent years, Dr. Edl has additionally focused on a new field of technology. As the head of a dedicated team of international experts, he is bringing the game-changing possibilities of DFOS – Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing – into the field of road traffic monitoring. This enables Dr. Edl to provide a unique and forward-looking perspective on traffic management and traffic safety, bridging academic insight with real-world infrastructure solutions and the modern aspects of AI and machine learning.

Ydze operates at the intersection of mobility, urban development, and large-scale events, where policy, infrastructure, and operations converge. He works on strategic and governance-related challenges in high-density urban environments with significant visitor flows and complex governance structures. He brings international advisory experience from Arup and Deloitte, and connects long-term vision with actionable decisions in public–private partnerships. His strength lies in combining a systemic perspective, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to provide clear direction in complex challenges related to multifunctional urban hubs.

At CROW, we develop knowledge about infrastructure and transport in the physical living environment. We provide practical solutions that are immediately applicable in practice, such as standards and (design) guidelines. CROW aims to provide governments, road administrators and private organisations with the means they need to manage, control and scale their efforts in a uniform manner, in order to create and maintain a safe and sustainable environment for us all. Personally, I mainly focus on projects related to vehicle automation and road safety. Ali Mortazavi brings over 19 years of experience advancing transportation and mobility technologies, with a focus on autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision making. His career spans industry and applied research, bridging advanced technology development with real-world deployment and operational insight.
Ali has contributed to autonomous mobility initiatives across the ecosystem, including work spanning vehicle autonomy, delivery robotics, and large-scale mobility platforms, with programs and teams associated with Zoox, Amazon Scout, and Nissan. His experience includes building data and analytics frameworks that transform complex transportation data into actionable insights for safety, performance, and operations.
He holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Safety from The George Washington University and is a named inventor on more than ten patents related to autonomous mobility, data platforms, and intelligent transportation systems.

Tim Johannes is a Senior Project Manager at New Mobility Solutions Hamburg GmbH (NMS), where he drives innovative and sustainable mobility projects for the city of Hamburg. He leads the Hamburg use case of the European autonomous freight logistics project MODI and contributes to the Pre-Large-Scale Demonstrator initiative.
Tim entered the field of autonomous mobility in 2019, helping to launch one of the first autonomous shuttle projects in Germany. He later joined a German autonomous shuttle manufacturer, where he served as Key Account Manager for the US and DACH markets, building strong international partnerships and supporting public transport operators in deploying autonomous vehicle technology.
Today at NMS, he focuses on shaping connected, low-emission and future-ready mobility solutions that make Hamburg more efficient, accessible and livable.

Stefan Deix, Director, European Council for Automotive R&D (EUCAR)
 Stefan Deix graduated as physicist at the University of Vienna. Since 2015, he has been Director of EUCAR, the European Council for Automotive R&D. EUCAR members are the major European passenger car and commercial vehicle manufacturers. The European automobile manufacturers are the largest private investors in R&D in Europe with over €70 billion investment per year. Stefan Deix was Director for Research & Innovation at CLEPA (European Association of Automotive Suppliers) facilitating the Research and Innovation Working Group activities. Before that he was working at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in the Department Mobility. He was appointed research coordinator for Austria, research area leader for road safety and elected Chairman of the research coordinators at FEHRL (Forum of European Highway Research Laboratories).

Mr. Chakravarty serves as Vice President of Engineering for Econolite Control Products, Inc. He is responsible for providing leadership in planning, establishing, and directing all aspects of the company’s engineering policies, along with influencing and executing the technology roadmap for the company.
Prior to joining Econolite, Mr. Chakravarty served as Vice President of Engineering at Beyond Limits (Glendale, CA) responsible for the overall engineering strategy and the design, development, support, and operations for the company’s portfolio of AI-based products and solutions. Prior to that, he was Director of Engineering at Trustwave (Chicago, IL) and M86 Security (Irvine, CA). At Trustwave and M86 Security, Mr. Chakravarty led the engineering and program management activities for the company’s Web security, filtering, and analytics products, along with running a globally distributed Security Labs team.
Mr. Chakravarty has also held senior level Engineering positions with increasing responsibilities at Symantec Corp. (Mountain View, CA) and HCL Technologies (Noida, India).

Dagmar Hofsteede-Cats is project manager, program manager and process facilitator in various mobility projects. Coming from her Master in Urban Design and Planning (TU Eindhoven), Dagmar has developed her career further in the mobility sector. After years of experience in business development and strategy in the automotive industry, she has made the shift to the public sector.
Dagmar currently works as project manager of ROMO (Road Monitor) on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management. The ROMO project fosters mobility data innovation by developing anonymized vehicle data into valuable information to improve road safety and road management. The project links 11 providers of datasets and information products to the wide audience of road authorities. From municipalities to provinces to national road management, from road safety hotspots to potholes to detection of slippery roads. Dagmar will tell you all about how these two worlds come together in the project.

Emmanouil Papoutsakis (paputsak@ics.forth.gr) is a software developer at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH-ICS). He received his B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Crete in 2007, an M.Sc. degree in Business Economics, Finance, and Banking from the University of Portsmouth, and an M.Sc. degree in Service Engineering through a joint program involving the University of Crete (Greece), the University of Stuttgart (Germany), and Tilburg University (the Netherlands).
His main research interests include cloud computing, cybersecurity, and security by design. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Technical University of Crete, where his research focuses on the design and development of AI-based intrusion detection systems, leveraging advanced machine learning models to analyse network traffic and detect malicious activity in complex, large-scale, and IoT-enabled environments.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Mrs. Kalliala has experience of more than 100 projects as a project manager, landscape architect, and sustainability expert.

Régis Eidi Nishimoto is a senior executive and entrepreneur with more than three decades of experience in traffic enforcement and road safety. He is a key leader at Mobilis, a global market reference and the leader in the world’s largest traffic enforcement market, where he has helped combine technological innovation with large-scale operational expertise.
Over Mobilis’ 34-year history, Régis has been directly involved in the deployment of intelligent traffic enforcement systems that have contributed to saving more than 100,000 lives worldwide. His work focuses on the practical application of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, connected systems, and cloud-based platforms—to deliver measurable safety outcomes while ensuring transparency, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
In addition to his executive role, Régis is a member of the Technical Chamber of the Brazilian National Traffic Office (SENATRAN) and serves as a Director of the Traffic Engineering Companies Association in Brazil (ABEETRANS). In these capacities, he actively contributes to the development of technical standards, regulatory frameworks, and public policies related to traffic enforcement and road safety.
Régis has extensive experience designing and implementing flexible business models for traffic enforcement programs, including public-operated systems and concession-based partnerships. Associate Professor Marko Ševrović, PhD, is an international transport expert with over 20 years of experience in transport planning, road infrastructure design, and road safety. Since October 2025, he serves as Vice-Dean for Business and Administrative Affairs at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He previously held the position of Head of the Department for Transport Planning at the same Faculty. He is also the Director and Senior Road Safety Expert at the European Institute of Road Assessment (EIRA) in Slovenia.
Throughout his career, Ševrović has been a lead author and manager of numerous transport studies and Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) for cities across Croatia and beyond. His work includes the development of transport master plans, traffic engineering projects, transport policy and parking strategies, as well as road safety audits and assessments. He has overseen delivery of more than 100 transport studies and eight SUMP documents, working on projects in over 50 cities and 20 countries.
Ševrović has also been a project manager and principal road safety engineer on many transport planning projects in Croatia, as well as on EuroRAP/iRAP and related international road safety initiatives. He has led the implementation of iRAP protocols and capacity-building training in Croatia, the UK, Qatar, Lebanon, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Bosnia and other countries. He has contributed to several EU-funded projects related to road infrastructure safety, including SENSOR, RADAR, SLAIN, and NETSAFETY, and is currently involved in Horizon Europe projects PHOEBE, ELABORATOR, and CAMBER. He also serves as a PhD mentor within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network project IVORY (AI for Vision Zero in Road Safety).

International Project Coordinator and Mobility Project Manager

Stephanie Kleine, a civil engineer, has been working in the field of intelligent transport systems on operational level and in ministries for over 30 years. She has been involved in the development of ITS harmonisation and seamless ITS services in Europe for two decades in leading roles as part of EU ITS funding projects and was responsible for the European exchange of ITS experts from road operators and road authorities in the field of TIS, TM and freight and logistics for over 10 years. 
In 2012, the European EASYWAY Deployment Guidelines were adopted by the national transport ministries, for which Stephanie was largely responsible. For her work she was honoured with the EASYWAY Award for Outstanding Contribution. 
She is currently passionate about smart cycling. In 2025, she co-authored the European “Smart Cycling Roadmap: A Call to Action” developed in a joint effort of CEF project MERIDIAN and the Interreg North Sea project MegaBITS.
NAPCORE recently appointed her as Cycling and Walking Coordinator. Her responsibilities include establishing solid cooperation with the external cycling and walking ecosystem.

Paul is the innovation-driven Director of Mobility within Technolution. From the start, I have focused on innovations in (road and vessel) traffic management. Not limiting myself to applied research and proofs-of-concepts, but helping the innovations find their way to Technolution's commercial propositions and platforms for traffic information and management. And yes, this requires the patience that can take 10 to 15 years from the moment of the first targeted demonstrations to the broadly rolled-out and operational solutions that really matter. A logical next step in recent years was to help the innovations cross the boundaries of modalities and civil infrastructural networks and land them within new forms of public-private cooperation. The challenge for the coming years lies in connecting the traffic domain with the other domains within livable and vibrant cities and regions, including energy, high assurance and healthcare.

As Chief Technology & Research Officer at ACISA, I lead the development of our Smart Mobility cloud suite (Saturno) deployed across 15+ Spanish cities, combining edge computing, artificial intelligence, and cloud-native architectures. My work bridges cutting-edge technology with practical applications: from next-generation traffic light controllers with edge computing capabilities and AI,  to Digital Twin based traffic forecasting models that have improved congestion prediction.
I am currently pursuing my PhD at UPC, researching the integration of Small Language Models, Knowledge Graphs and AI with Digital Twin models, that can be apply to and effciient management of urban infrastructure. This research started to materialize in projects like 6G Twin Road, where we model urban intersections through digital twins, and COGNIT, an EU-funded serverless AI framework for cloud-edge applications.
My career combines strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise: from negotiating alliances securing over €1.5M in funding to directly developing V2X solutions and certifying systems under ISO 27001 and ENS frameworks. I have led cross-functional teams of 15+ engineers and successfully driven proposals for Horizon EU, CDTI, and other innovation programs.
The convergence of 5G/6G communications, AI enabled Digital Twins, and Generative AI is redefining intelligent transportation. pioneering this transformation and delivering real-world impact is my mission in ACISA.

He organises the collaboration with navigation service providers for NDW, for the European project TISGRADE and for the European Taskforce of member states collaborating on the Real-Time Traffic Information delegated regulation.

Ricardo Tiago has a degree in Civil Engineering - Roads and Transport from ISEL - Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa. He began his professional life in 2004 at EP - Estradas de Portugal, working in road safety area. Between 2008 and 2012, he worked in InIR - Institute of Road Infrastructures, in road safety, contract management of road concessions, more specifically in monitoring and following up maintenance activities of road managers. With the merger of the 3 institutes InIR / IMTT / IPTM, he joined IMT - Institute for Mobility and Transport, in the Contracts and Concessions Management Department. Since 2016, his career has been more focussed on the international area, and he is currently IMT’s Senior Advisor in Intelligent Mobility (ITS, C-ITS, CCAM). Within IMT, he is responsible for the overall monitoring and coordination of various European ITS & C-ITS Projects. Claire Ciancio is the Co-Founder and CEO of Greenroads Limited, a sustainable mobility and technology company recognized by the European Innovation Radar. She received her B.A. (Hons) in European Studies with Anthropology from the University of Malta in 2007, and an M.A. in Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship from the same institution in 2014. Additionally, she has completed specialized executive training in Mentorship and Business Digital Transformation 
Her professional expertise centers on road infrastructure data and entreprenership. Having founded her first IT venture in 2005, she has over twenty years of experience in managing business lifecycles from feasibility and fundraising to international commercialization. She is the author of a practical guide on starting a business in Malta, published in collaboration with TAKEOFF and the University of Malta. Currently, her work focuses on the intersection of AI and transport technology through Greenroads Limited and the PATTERN project.

Michael Nikowitz serves as the Coordinator for Automated Mobility at Austria’s Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI). In this role, he is responsible for national strategies and action plans on automated mobility. He currently leads the development of a new regulatory framework for automated driving in Austria.
He holds a Master of Science in Engineering (Mechatronics & Robotics and Laser Engineering) from the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna.
Before joining the ministry, Michael spent several years in the automotive sector as a robotics engineer and laser scientist, specializing in ultrashort-pulse laser systems. He later joined the Austrian Association for Advanced Propulsion Systems (A3PS), where he represented Austria at the International Energy Agency and co-authored technology roadmaps and working groups on eco-mobility and automated driving.
Since 2016, he has coordinated the Ministry’s initiatives on cooperative, connected, and automated mobility.
Alongside his government responsibilities, Michael lectures at universities on topics such as automated mobility, robotics, and laser engineering. He is also an active author of technical papers and industry publications on hybrid and electric vehicles as well as automated-mobility solutions.

Mike Kenny is an Electronics Engineer and the founder and CEO of MetroCount.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from The University of Western Australia (1979). He also designed advanced electronic data systems for America’s Cup yachts.

In 1987, he co-established Microcom Ltd to commercialise his electronic designs. By 1989, Mike assumed sole ownership of the company, which now trades as MetroCount. Under his leadership, MetroCount has grown from an Australian startup into a global leader in traffic monitoring solutions, serving governments and contractors in over 135 countries, with seven major product lines spanning traffic data logging instruments and software.

Mohamed Shams Magd is a Ph.D. candidate in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Western University, researching data-driven safety methods that use harsh-braking signals to understand and improve driver behaviour near automated enforcement. Previously, he worked as a transportation planner/traffic engineer with multiple companies, delivering multimodal plans, network modelling, and micro/macro-simulation on projects across the Middle East. He holds an M.Sc. (Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering) and a B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) from Cairo University. In his current role as Head of Regulatory Strategy for Emerging Technologies, Sergiu serves as a member of the EUROCAE Technical Advisory Committee responsible for the IAM domain and as Membership Secretary at JARUS' Industry Stakeholder Body and supports other industry groups and initiatives including EASA, ICAO, SESAR3 JU etc.
Prior to joining Boeing, he worked at EUROCAE managing standardization activities to cover UAS, UTM/U- Space, C-UAS, airports and other topics in close coordination with regulators, R&D and other relevant stakeholders. Before that he worked at the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova where he dealt with high-level policy initiatives and regulatory affairs aiming at enforcing safe operations, high aviation security standards, fair competition and consumer protection. Bernd Reul serves as the Head of Off-street and International Key Accounts, Europe at Arrive. He has been with Arrive (before Easypark Group) since 2017 and his tenure includes extensive experience as the Country Director for Denmark & Iceland tripling the number of customers and transactions over 6 years. 
Bernd and his team are responsible for the off-street business in Europe for Arrive in relation to both the EasyPark and RingGo services. There is a special emphasis on automatic camera parking, and this expansion involves strategic partnerships with international parking operators and international parking management system providers. 
Earlier, another focus area for his team has been the commercial development of EasyPark’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging offering, aiming to enhance its distribution in various countries.
Bernd's professional background is rich and diverse. Prior to Arrive (EasyPark Group), he gained significant experience in various international leadership roles including Vice President and Director positions in sales, marketing, business development, product management, and tech development in companies like TDC and Scientific-Atlanta (a Cisco company). After several years as an officer of the British Army, Ian Hume settled in Germany and studied environmental and power engineering before starting his second career in logistics and recycling technology.
Since 1996 he is the director of logistics at Messe Düsseldorf and has additionally lead various departments including event technology and site services. 
With nearly 30 years’ experience in the field of events and exhibitions, Ian has a comprehensive knowledge of site and event organization as well as parking services. He has been involved in such events as the Grand Depart of the Tour de France, UEFA European Cup as well as hundreds of major exhibitions and concerts. In his time at Messe Düsseldorf he was responsible for the planning of traffic infrastructure and the coordination with all relevant authorities and organizations. 
Messe Düsseldorf operates around 16.000 parking spaces for the exhibition site as well as the Arena in Düsseldorf. With over 2 Mio participants at events at both venues, parking is a critical service. In addition, over 100.000 HGV deliveries for the exhibition site alone need to be organized. Over the years numerous tools for traffic coordination have been developed and implemented. More are planned!

After selling his business, Larry moved into the public sector and led parking and transportation operations at the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins Health System and George Washington University.
He authored the “parking cult classic” book, “The Quirky World of Parking, Four Decades of Observations, One Parking Space at a Time” which has been described as a “Parking 101” masterclass intertwined with crazy stories from his nearly 45-years in the profession.  The book was featured on the HBO show, “How to with John Wilson” and has sold in countries around the world.  The book rights are currently up for sale in Hollywood in hopes of becoming a TV comedy.

Chris Riley is the Chief Commercial Officer of Glydways, responsible for growing global business, partnerships and corporate reputation.

He has extensive experience in urban mobility, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and road infrastructure management. Dr. Stephane Dreher is the Head of Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) at ERTICO – ITS Europe. He coordinates the EU-funded CCAMbassador project, fostering collaboration, international cooperation and knowledge sharing for R&I, testing and deployment across Europe. He is part of the Executive Group of the European CCAM Partnership under Horizon Europe, leading the coordination cluster. Previously, he worked with the UNDP in Riyadh on transport data and analytics and led EU Government Programmes at HERE Technologies in Brussels. He contributed to the early development of the Local Dynamic Map concept, laying the groundwork for high-definition maps used in cooperative and automated vehicles.

Arno Wolter has been working in the field of road safety and accident prevention for more than 10 years and he is the founder and chief executive of the Initiative for Safer Roads. Furthermore, Mr Wolter has many years of experience with data-driven projects and digitalisation through senior positions in various companies and institutions in planning and controlling. Mr Wolter studied international economics, holds a degree from the United Nations University as social innovator, specialising recently on road safety and accident research.
His expertise and consulting activities currently cover the areas of road safety, accident analysis, smart cities and liveable cities. Mr Wolter also regularly speaks on these topics at national and international conferences. Mr Wolter is also a personal member of the Research Association for Road and Traffic Engineering (FGSV) in Germany and, through the Initiative for Safe Roads, a member of the German Traffic Accident Victims' Aid Association (VoD).

During 15 years worked in the digital transformation of the electricity network, managing a laboratory that also helped to the utilities to specify and test the devices for the Smart Grids. Gernot Sauter is Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist in 3M’s Commercial Branding and Transportation Laboratory.  As a standardization expert, Gernot drives all EMEA certification and standardization efforts for the 3M Transportation Safety portfolio. Gernot is passionate about road safety and Vision Zero initiatives. He leads the Reflective Science Center in the Customer Technical Center based in Neuss, Germany. He frequently engages with transportation authorities, test laboratories and road safety experts in various technical committees. Gernot is a regular speaker at scientific conferences, e.g. from ERF, IRF, TAIEX on various topics related to roadway safety. His professional experience includes research and product development, application engineering, lighting technology, quality and certification. Gernot is a member of CEN, CIE, DIN, FGSV, GTB and various other standard setting organizations.  He holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering of the Technical University Aachen, RWTH.

As Scientific Director of DEEL Academy (Dutch Empathic Environment Livinglabs), she coordinates multi-city living labs with municipalities, housing and care organisations, industry and civil society to generate evidence, prototypes and implementable policies. Kevin, a Chartered Engineer, spent 28 years as an Officer in the Corps of Military Engineers serving at home and overseas. He moved to Technical Director within Civil Defence in Ireland where he founded the then largest drone operation in Ireland in 2012. In 2019 he joined the Manna team at the beginning and led the team in achieving one of the first LUCs issued by NAAs in Europe in April 2021. This LUC is now at SAIL III BVLOS over populated areas. Kevin is currently serving a second term as President of Drone Alliance Europe.

Richard Bishop, Principal, Next Generation Mobility LLC, has over 30 years of experience in the domain of intelligent, connected, and automated vehicles and how these interact with our transportation system and society, including automated cars, trucks, and robotaxis.  He provides strategic consulting to automotive manufacturers, suppliers, and tech firms, as well as advising federal and state government agencies in the U.S. and abroad. He led Team Lux in the DARPA Urban Challenge and since then has “surfed the wave” of AV development, working with a wide array of Automated Driving System developers.  Mr. Bishop has published extensively on Forbes.com as well as self-publishing. Prior to establishing Bishop Consulting in 1997, Mr. Bishop was Program Manager for Vehicle-Highway Automation at the USDOT Federal Highway Administration.

Eduardo Ramos is Executive Board Member of Brisa Group, with the roles of Chief Development Officer (CDO), CEO of Via Verde, Innovation Officer, as well as Non-Executive Director of Brisa Concessão Rodoviária and A-to-Be. Within Via Verde Ecosystem, Eduardo is the Chairman of Via Verde Pay and of Axxès.

He worked for Redas Engineering in Milan as Transportation modeler and demand survey designer, developed for relevant customers in Norther Italy.  He then joined AVR in Rome as Head of ITS department, delivering several projects for Tuscany Region and Florence Metropolitan Area (SicurTraf). In 2018 he became Chief Technical Officer for the AVR Group. In 2021, he joined Movyon as Head of Traffic and Safety Systems. In 2025, he took on the role of Project Manager for the GENOVA project. As a senior consultant at TNO, I work on the transition to a smart and sustainable mobility system. I have a special focus on space use, human well-being, and equality. With a background in human geography, I started out in the more technically oriented field of dynamic traffic management and mobility management. In recent years, the focus has shifted back to the spatial domain and related questions about people's mobility behavior. I am currently active in the field of mobility, well-being (Broad Prosperity), and spatial use, developing and applying frameworks to operationalize policy ambitions into indicators and guidelines for policymakers. In addition, I am working on the transdisciplinary TNO program Balanced Spatial Choices, in which we develop knowledge, methods, and tools to support the decision-making process around social, ecological, and economic ambitions.

Maaike Snelder is associate professor at the Department of Transport and Planning, Civil Engineering at the Delft University of Technology and principal scientist at TNO. She is co-director of the Sustainable Urban Multimodal Mobility Lab (SUM Lab) and Editor-in-Chief of the platinum open access European Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research (EJTIR).
Maaike was/is principal investigator in the NWO research programs Mobility DesAIgn Lab, XCARCITY (co-lead), SUMMALab, ToGRIP and STAD (co-lead) and lead scientist in several other large projects focusing on the development of a next generation of traffic and transport models and the development of interactive network design methods.
Her research focuses on impact assessment and design of multimodal transport systems with a special interest in the resilience of networks and the impact of new mobility concepts like automated vehicles and shared mobility. Maaike has a broad experience in the development and application of static and dynamic, strategic and real-time traffic transport models and optimization models for network design. For example, she developed the new mobility modeler to assess impacts of new mobility concepts, she developed an optimization and impact assessment model for robust road network design, she led a joint research project on activity based models, she oversaw the development of the first real-time waterway traffic model for the canals of Amsterdam and lead the development of prediction and smart routing models in the context of the ‘Praktijkproef’ (field trial) in Amsterdam. Maaike completed her PhD research about robust road network design in 2010 (Cum Laude) and completed her study Econometrics in 2003.

Eric Frijters is the co-founder and director of FABRICations, and former professor of Future Urban Regions at the Dutch Academy of Architecture. As a spatial and strategic designer with over twenty years of international experience, Frijters is regarded as a frontrunner in research-driven, innovative solutions to complex urban challenges.
Educated at Eindhoven University of Technology (cum laude), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and the University of Amsterdam, Frijters developed a multidisciplinary approach to spatial design. His work appears in leading books and journals, where he explores and redefines the boundaries of architectural, landscape, and urban design.
As former professor of Future Urban Regions, Frijters led an inter-academic research program focused on healthy urbanization. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Supervisory Board of the Managing Public Space Foundation. In these roles, he contributes to safeguarding design quality in societal, governmental, and academic contexts.
Since founding FABRICations together with Olv Klijn, Frijters has made significant contributions to areas such as urban metabolism, mixed-use cities, climate adaptation, and energy landscapes. Mike Drow is the Chief Executive Officer at Paralign, Inc, a leader in facility compliance and video-based monitoring services. During his more than 20 years in the parking industry, he has built several technology-based solutions and service operations. He has led the development of mobility services, remote management operations, mobile payments and interactive marketing services. He has worked with municipalities, universities, airports and urban garages. He serves on the board of the Alliance for Parking Data Standards, served as the Co-chair of IPMI Technology Committee and is certified as a Project Management Professional and PTMP.

City of Helsinki approaches urban aviation from a spatial, systemic, and climate-responsible perspective.
In a dense, sea-constrained city, space is the scarcest resource. By introducing the vertical dimension into mobility and logistics, we can reduce pressure on ground-level land use and increase the city’s functional capacity without expanding its footprint.
At the same time, any AAM or UAM deployment must align with our carbon reduction and sustainability targets. For us, urban air mobility is not a technology experiment—it is a question and a quest of how to integrate a new aerial layer into the city in a way that improves reliability, resilience, and environmental performance in a civil society.
That is why we built a U-space prototype directly into Helsinki’s digital twin: to simulate, visualize, test, and assess impacts before implementation. Even if cities do not own the airspace, we are responsible for how it affects our citizens and urban structure. Our role is to actively shape the transition—systematically, collaboratively, and in line with our long-term urban strategy.

Tom Alkim is Strategic Advisor for Connected & Automated Mobility at MAPtm, a Dutch company specializing in intelligent transport systems with consultancy, digital and operational services. With 25 years of experience in the public sector, Tom has played a leading role in advancing dynamic traffic management, cooperative ITS, and connected & automated Mobility. His career includes long-standing contributions at Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Water Management, and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research & Innovation.
During the Dutch EU presidency in 2016, Tom was a core team member behind two landmark initiatives: the Declaration of Amsterdam and the European Truck Platooning Challenge, both of which helped set the stage for Europe’s connected and automated mobility future.
Tom is actively engaged in international collaboration and thought leadership. He serves as the CCAM Partnership delegate for Physical & Digital Infrastructure, chairs the International Taskforce on Vehicle-Highway Automation (ITFVHA), co-chairs the IRF Connected and Autonomous Mobility Committee (CAMC) and sits on the International Advisory Board of Intertraffic. His current work spans several National and European research and innovation initiatives. Dónal has over 30 years of experience working on major transportation and technology projects for both the public and private sectors. Since 2010, he has been a Board member of ITS Ireland and was elected to the position of Chair of the Network of National ITS Associations (ITS Nationals) in June 2024 following a competitive election process involving 30 national ITS associations across Europe.  In his position, he represents the 2,500 public sector and corporate members of the collective group and has taken the lead in restructuring the governance, communications and organisational structure of the group. The ITS Nationals continues to champion communication, cooperation and collaboration across the network and with international stakeholders and national ITS associations around the world.
