Eric Frijters

Eric Frijters is the co-founder and director of FABRICations, and former professor of Future Urban Regions at the Dutch Academy of Architecture. As a spatial and strategic designer with over twenty years of international experience, Frijters is regarded as a frontrunner in research-driven, innovative solutions to complex urban challenges.

Educated at Eindhoven University of Technology (cum laude), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and the University of Amsterdam, Frijters developed a multidisciplinary approach to spatial design. His work appears in leading books and journals, where he explores and redefines the boundaries of architectural, landscape, and urban design.

As former professor of Future Urban Regions, Frijters led an inter-academic research program focused on healthy urbanization. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Supervisory Board of the Managing Public Space Foundation. In these roles, he contributes to safeguarding design quality in societal, governmental, and academic contexts.

Since founding FABRICations together with Olv Klijn, Frijters has made significant contributions to areas such as urban metabolism, mixed-use cities, climate adaptation, and energy landscapes. Notable projects include the Bajeskwartier in Amsterdam, Minervahaven, the Innovation Quarter in Den Bosch, and Quartier SXF 2.0 in Berlin.
