Road monitor 2: using the vehicle as a sensor
An introduction to the Road Monitor 2 project. An innovation partnership between the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, National Road Traffic Data Portal and private parties. During the 4 year project public and private work together to use probe vehicle data for smart road maintenance (Asset Management and Weather Management) and road safety management.
Speakers
Bob van der Meer works as Theme Manager Asset Management at NDW. Over the past year, he has been actively involved in the ROMO tender process, ensuring a smooth and effective procurement phase. In his current role, Bob represents NDW in the ROMO project team, where NDW collaborates closely with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) to gain further insights in the future of data driven asset, weather and safety management.
NDW’s mission is to collect, manage, and share high-quality traffic and mobility data for road authorities.
Bob brings expertise in data-driven decision-making, and project coordination, enabling him to bridge technical requirements with strategic objectives. His work focuses on leveraging mobility data and innovative technologies to enhance infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
Dagmar Hofsteede-Cats is project manager, program manager and process facilitator in various mobility projects. Coming from her Master in Urban Design and Planning (TU Eindhoven), Dagmar has developed her career further in the mobility sector. After years of experience in business development and strategy in the automotive industry, she has made the shift to the public sector.
Dagmar currently works as project manager of ROMO (Road Monitor) on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management. The ROMO project fosters mobility data innovation by developing anonymized vehicle data into valuable information to improve road safety and road management. The project links 11 providers of datasets and information products to the wide audience of road authorities. From municipalities to provinces to national road management, from road safety hotspots to potholes to detection of slippery roads. Dagmar will tell you all about how these two worlds come together in the project.
