Maatregelen voor kwetsbare verkeersdeelnemers
Kwetsbare verkeersdeelnemers, zoals voetgangers, fietsers en kinderen, verdienen extra aandacht in ons mobiliteitssysteem. Toch zien we dat juist onder deze groepen het aantal slachtoffers toeneemt. Welke maatregelen en aanpakken zijn nodig om hun veiligheid écht te verbeteren en het aantal verkeersdoden terug te dringen. Wat draag echt bij aan de verkeersveiligheid?

Bewoners omarmen veelal 30km/uur als snelheidslimiet in hun straat. Toch lukt het vaak niet om de V85 te reduceren naar een respectabel niveau. Hoe kunnen we hier samen met bewoners
stappen in zetten? Wat is daarvoor nodig? Welke rol hebben bewoners daar in? Hoe pakken we dat aan? Daar gaan we op in tijdens onze presentatie.
Freek van der Valk - Swarco Nederland - Verkeersveiligheid van kwetsbare fietsers verbeteren
In Nederland en Europa werken we toe naar één helder doel: nul verkeersslachtoffers. Technologie speelt een steeds belangrijkere rol om dit te bereiken. Daarom is het initiatief V2Experience opgericht door Gemeente Helmond, Provincie Noord-Brabant, TNO, Gazelle, Spectrum59 en SWARCO Nederland. Met V2Experience laten we in een realistische omgeving zien hoe technologie kan bijdragen aan betere verkeersveiligheid voor fietsers. Door de fiets slimmer te maken en beter zichtbaar voor voertuigen, kunnen ongevallen worden voorkomen. Moderne voertuigen beschikken namelijk steeds vaker over communicatietechnologie waarmee zij met elkaar én met slimme fietsen kunnen communiceren. Zo brengen we veilige en slimme mobiliteit een stap dichterbij de praktijk.

Freek van der Valk is a senior executive with extensive experience in traffic technology, intelligent transport systems (ITS), and smart mobility solutions. He currently serves as Managing Director of SWARCO Nederland BV, where he is responsible for strategic development, operational performance, and the implementation of innovative traffic management technologies within the Dutch mobility sector.
Van der Valk built a strong foundation during his 17-year career at Siemens Traffic Solutions. During this period, he developed in-depth expertise in traffic control systems, infrastructure technology, and large-scale public infrastructure projects in both urban and interurban area. His long tenure within an international technology organization contributed to his technical competence, leadership capabilities, and understanding of complex stakeholder environments.
Following his time at Siemens, he held the position of Director at Vialis from 2003 to 2009. In this role, he was responsible for managing operational activities and strengthening strategic partnerships within the infrastructure and mobility domain. This experience further enhanced his ability to align technological innovation with public-sector objectives.
Since 2009, as Managing Director of SWARCO Nederland BV, Van der Valk has focused on advancing cooperative ITS, digital traffic infrastructure, and sustainable mobility solutions. Under his leadership, the organization has contributed to the development of smart traffic systems aimed at improving road safety, traffic efficiency, and environmental sustainability. His professional approach is characterized by strategic vision, stakeholder collaboration, and a strong emphasis on innovation within public-private partnerships.

Marc Verhage started his career as officer at the Royal Netherlands Navy. After his study at the Royal Netherlands Naval Academy and the Technical university of Eindhoven he had several (project)management and direction positions in consulting firms, in construction industry and since 2023 at Connekt.
