GaiaHub’s Vision for Urban Health

GaiaHub’s Vision for Urban Health

Cleantech startup GaiaHub is helping cities move towards climate neutrality by offering real-time traffic emissions monitoring through advanced license plate recognition and data analytics. In a pilot project supported by EIT Urban Mobility in Liepāja, Latvia, GaiaHub installed smart cameras at key intersections to track vehicle types and emissions using data from the Latvian National Car Registry. The system provides real-time insights into emissions trends, significantly improving the city's previous, slower method of data collection.

GaiaHub’s platform enhances accuracy by factoring in vehicle speed, acceleration, and pollutants beyond CO₂, like CO and NO. The data feeds into an administrative portal and a public-facing landing page that visualizes emissions data, boosting citizen engagement and awareness. Fully GDPR-compliant, the system does not store video and encrypts all data.

The project, part of the RAPTOR Programme 2024, has strengthened collaboration between GaiaHub and the city, and opened doors for future partnerships. GaiaHub aims to expand to more cities and eventually create a digital twin simulation platform to model transport flows and predict future scenarios cost-effectively.
