Parking space is scarce, especially in urban areas. Searching for a parking space can often be annoying. Every year drivers spend an average of 41 hours searching for a parking space. This is frustrating. Apart from the waste of time this results in additional fuel costs, and the exhaust pollution should also not be neglected. Forecasts also indicate that we can expect a steady rise in the number of vehicle registrations. As a consequence, the traffic density will further increase. Municipalities are faced with the challenge to find a remedy.

Hectronic provides assistance to optimize the municipalities’ parking management. The cloud-based surveillance system HecSpot provides real-time information on the parking space occupancy to the PC or smartphone and valuable forecasts for the parking space occupancy to be expected. The goal is to control the parking search traffic, monitor car parks systematically and increase economy by dynamic discounts.

It is based on the following functional principle:

Following a customized picture interval surveillance cameras generate the database for the system by sending snapshots to a cloud-based server. By means of an algorithm the data are processed on this server and transmitted to the Hectronic management software CityLine. Free and occupied parking spaces are identified and the parking time is shown. By means of different statistical methods it is possible to evaluate utilization, parking time and incoming as well as outgoing vehicles based on the given situation.

The additional use of the parking ticket machine Citea allows to generate further information such as the paid parking time and match it with the data from the camera. In this way the parking space operator identifies the users who have exceeded the parking time or not even bought a valid ticket. This information is available to the controlling bodies in real-time on the PC or smartphone allowing to initiate and record respective punishments.

An interface in the HecSpot surveillance system also allows for data communication with any third-party systems visualizing the occupancy status. Feasible are parking space information signs, guidance systems or apps navigating to free parking spaces. The customer can thus be offered a customized solution which increases both the comfort for drivers and the efficiency for towns and municipalities.

Swiss City of Interlaken Convinced by New Surveillance System

Cloud-based Surveillance System for Parking Space Operators

The city of Interlaken, a well-known and popular tourist destination in Switzerland, had been searching for a solution of the frequent traffic  problems occurring at its busy coach parking area. These resulted from a limited number of spaces, an insufficient shunting area and the  inconvenient access at the end of a long one-way road. Problems other towns and cities should also know too well. The surveillance system  HecSpot provides relief. Two GSM-cameras for 13 coach parking spaces and an interface to a prohibition sign were installed. If all spaces are  occupied the LED-signal lights up and signals the bus driver at an early stage to avoid the car park.

“The installation and setting up was quick and easy without problems. The traffic situation at the coach parking area has eased considerably.  Due to the consistently positive experience we are considering to equip further car parks with the innovative system.” Hans Peter Bühlmann,  Municipality of Interlaken.

The combination of smart software solutions and proven hardware components can open up new possibilities with respect to economic efficiency and user-friendliness. We are looking forward to demonstrating you our solutions at the Intertraffic Istanbul! Stand 10G-112!
