Exploring LATAM cities & new collaborations

Thursday, 18 April 2019

Last month I travelled to Mexico and Colombia in preparation for the 2019 edition of Intertraffic Mexico. With the ever-growing importance of our Latin America based event, we are constantly on the outlook for new collaborations to enhance the experience for our exhibitors and visitors.

While in Mexico, I’ve met up with Jose C. Azcarate Beltran, the president of ITS Mexico to brainstorm how we can assist the members of ITS Mexico. Among a few initiatives that will be introduced are an ITS Mexico Seminar, a dedicated network hub on the show floor and extensive knowledge programmes during the conference. I am really looking forward to a fruitful collaboration between Intertraffic and ITS Mexico.

I also discussed trends and topics with Bernardo Baranda Sepúlveda, Transportation and Development Policies (ITDP) and Nicolás Alberto Rosales Pallares, Mexican Association of Transportation and Mobility, A.C. (AMTM). Besides global developments as big data, EV, shared mobility they also highlighted the development of micro-mobility in big Latin American cities. After these inspirational meetings, I explored Mexico City by myself on a Grin Scooter, a great example of micro-mobility.

In Colombia, I visited ITS Latin America where I caught up with some of our customers like Simec from Spain and Pumatronix from Brasil. While visiting Bogota, it’s evident that there is a need for sustainable and integrated mobility solution where public transport plays an important role.

Large cities in Latin America as Bogota but also São Paulo and Mexico City are still very much reliant on traditional forms of public transportation such as buses, trains, and subway systems. These cities simply cannot support any more vehicles on the road without an infrastructure overhaul.
