Economic mission to China

Wednesday, 18 April 2018

Last week a group of Dutch representatives went on an economic mission to China in the presence of Prime Minister Mark Rutte and State Secretary of Infrastructure and Water Management Stientje van Veldhoven. Intertraffic China’s Exhibition Manager Editha Hoogenberg-Derksen was invited by Connekt to join the smart and green mobility programme as part of the mission.

The mission is an excellent opportunity to develop further insights into this growing market and develop relationships with Dutch and Chinese representatives and (potential) business partners. One of the main ambitions of the Chinese government is greening the economy and society at all levels. Zero emission is very high on the agenda of both countries. With 1.4 billion inhabitants, China’s focusing on the mobility sector as one of the key industries.

The mission emphasized on accelerating the adaptation of new energy vehicles, autonomous driving and intelligent transport systems, as well as highlighting Dutch knowledge and expertise in this field. Due to the Dutch government’ strong ties in the automotive industry in China, the programme was of high quality and well-regarded. Rules and legislation with regards to the development of drones and autonomous driving was also often point of discussion.

Exhibition Manager Intertraffic China, Editha, says “It was interesting to actually see and experience the new technologies in traffic and mobility in China. For example a test ride in an autonomous car of Jingchi on a public road in Guangzhou. We spoke a lot with Chinese companies who are open to strengthen the relationship with Dutch companies to cooperate and share knowledge to bring the global mobility market to the next level.”

The group travelled to Shanghai, one of the most ambitious areas when it comes to intelligent transport, test facilities and new energy vehicles, and Guangdong province, hosts of some of the most ambitious companies focusing on electric vehicles integrating smart and connected driving.

Editha concludes “I have to say that the hospitality of the Chinese companies we visited was overwhelming. It was an interesting and successful week.”

Intertraffic China is held from 28 – 30 May 2018.
