1022 Retroreflectometer

San Diego, CA – RoadVista announces the launch of the Model 1022 Handheld Retroreflectometer, the newest and most advanced instrument for quantifying the retroreflective performance of road signs, high-visibility clothing, conspicuity tapes, license plates, and other vertical retroreflective materials. The Model 1022 delivers precise retroreflectivity and nighttime color measurements in full compliance with all major global standards, giving transportation agencies, contractors, and testing laboratories a powerful new tool to enhance roadway safety.

Advanced Performance in the Field and Lab

Designed to withstand the rigors of daily field use while maintaining the optical precision required in the laboratory, the Model 1022 combines a rugged housing with high-end metrology-grade components. It measures both beaded and prismatic sign materials of any color without adjustments or filters and come standard with multiple user-selectable observation angles of 0.2, 0.33, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 degrees, covering all published standards. Users can choose fixed entrance angles of -4 or 5 degrees or an optional attachment that allows entrance angle adjustment from -60 to 60 degrees in both horizontal and vertical axes, ensuring flexibility for virtually any application.

Compliance with Global Standards

The Model 1022 is fully compliant with a wide range of international standards, including ASTM E1709, ASTM E2540, ASTM E1809, EN 12899, ISO 20471, ECE 104, ANSI/ISEA 107, ANSI/ISEA 207, AS/NZS 1906, DIN 67520, and others. This broad compliance allows organizations to confidently assess and document the performance of traffic signs, high-visibility garments, and conspicuity markings to meet regulatory requirements and internal quality programs worldwide.

User-Friendly Operation and Smart Tools

With a full-color, sunlight-readable 1000-nit capacitive touchscreen, the Model 1022 offers simple, intuitive operation even in bright outdoor conditions. The instrument integrates powerful tools including a built-in camera for sign documentation, barcode and QR code reader, 92-channel multi-constellation GPS, digital compass, accelerometer, and temperature/humidity sensor to capture comprehensive data for every measurement. For U.S. operators, a complete MUTCD Sign Library and
configurable pass/fail criteria are built in, enabling quick in-field assessments of installed signs and automatic averaging of legend and background areas for compliance checks.

Connectivity, Data Capacity, and Power

The Model 1022 features 16 GB of internal memory, expandable via external USB, and can store more than ten-thousand measurements with associated photos or millions without images, providing ample capacity for large-scale sign inventories and survey programs. USB and Bluetooth interfaces enable seamless communication with computers and external GPS systems, supporting streamlined workflows and data integration into asset management platforms. A long-life, fast-charging lithium-
ion battery with USB-C 65 W charging supports multi-day operation, and the instrument is supplied in a lightweight, ergonomic, durable protective case for convenient transport.

RoadVista®, a global leader in retroreflection measurement technology, today announced the launch of its latest pavement marking retroreflectometer, the Laserlux® FM Vehicle Front Mounted Pavement Retroreflectometer (LLFM). Designed to complement the highly successful Laserlux® G7 Mobile Retroreflectometer, the Laserlux® FM delivers enhanced vehicle front-mounted performance for efficient, continuous retroreflectivity assessment in real-world traffic environments.

The Laserlux® FM extends RoadVista’s proven Laserlux® technology — well known for accurate, continuous retroreflectivity measurement — with a front hitch-mounted configuration that enables full-lane measurement on a single pass, supporting highway-speed operations without the need for static work zones.

Complementing the Laserlux® G7

The Laserlux® FM enriches RoadVista’s Laserlux® family, building on the success of the Laserlux® G7 Mobile Retroreflectometer, which provides continuous pavement marking evaluation from the side of the vehicle and is the only commercially available system that does not require a dedicated test vehicle or modifications.

While the G7 remains a standard-bearing device for side-mount, dual-lane retroreflectivity measurement — operating safely in traffic, day or night — the new Laserlux® FM adds front-mounted flexibility and expanded survey workflows for full-lane assessment.
