AI is transforming mobility and parking — but what truly works, and what is just hype?
From dynamic pricing and curbside intelligence to in-vehicle guidance and automated parking, artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how cities manage space, demand and user experience. Yet alongside the opportunities come real operational, technical and governance challenges.
In this session, industry leaders will examine how AI is moving from experimentation to deployment.
Dr Mark Friesen will challenge the audience to separate hype from reality, exploring where AI delivers measurable value for operators — and what must happen now to stay ahead.
Duncan Licence (Arrive) will present AI as an orchestration layer connecting vehicle head units with physical parking infrastructure, transforming fragmented data into real-time guidance and shifting the focus from inventory management to demand orchestration.
Manu Bhargava (Valeo) and Thorsten Schmitt (BMW) will highlight the need for an open ecosystem linking vehicles and parking facilities, including the extension of APDS standards across the full parking customer journey and standardised facility maps.
Thomas Pühringer (SKIDATA) will explore AI’s practical applications and real-world deployment, examining how the convergence of on- and off-street parking with multimodal mobility is reshaping the ecosystem. He will also highlight SKIDATA’s human-centred approach, using its Connect platform to link technologies, partners and services around the user experience.
Anthony Cashel (PayByPhone) will add further industry perspectives.
The debate will address a central question: can AI create smarter cities and stronger revenues — or will fragmentation and lack of standards limit its impact?
