Truck weigh stations in Qatar go live
January 11, 2010 - news4its@ropl.com

Traffic Tech Group has announced the completion of six truck weigh stations on Salwa Highway, an international road connecting Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The Public Works Authority (PWA) in Qatar has also awarded Traffic Tech a contract to operate the stations for a period of two years.

The total system comprises four separate elements.

Main Line Sensors, covering all four lanes in one direction of the freeway, are installed at the approach to the stations for permanent traffic data collection, an ITS component that forms part of the highway’s road asset management system.

Trucks then initially pass through the Ramp Screening Scale, where potential overweight violation is identified. In addition, this sector is also equipped with an Over-height Vehicle Detection System (OVDS) that detects over-height violation. A Multi Platform Static Scale verifies the violation through static weighing while the final element of the system are Bypass Lanes that capture information of trucks that avoided the weigh station.
